Dorm Room List for the New. Essential list and decorating ideas.
So, you’re going to college!
Congrats! At this point I am sure you have your dormitory list (of what the
school recommends you to bring), location, parking info, and probably have or
probably going to orientation. Today I am going to focus on dormitories, mainly
decorating them.
First off let me include a link to
what I like to call the bare necessities.
Some items on the list provided above you won’t need and
please check with your university about restrictions and policies.
After all that is finished it is time to focus on
decorating.
Most, including me thought of this first and that is a
big DON’T. Get the essentials first. There are about a million ways to decorate
your dorm. Today I am going to provide the essentials needed to decorate your
new dorm, the rest is up to you and your imagination.
DECORATING SUPPLIES:
Let me start out by saying COMMAND HOOKS ARE YOUR NEW
BEST FRIEND. You can and will never have enough of them, so buy the big packs
and yes I said packs plural.
Also, buy power strips (if your university allows them). If
so I recommend a long cord one and a regular length cord one.
My favorite decorating technique in my room was Christmas
lights.
I bought about 6 boxes of white Christmas lights and with
command hooks strung them across my room on the ceiling.
Also another technique was string, command hooks, clothes
pins (mini)(painted), and a ton of pictures.
I also took the command hook tape and applied it to
clothes pins above my desk to provide a place to hang important papers and
reminders. (I didn’t have a bulletin board)
Important tip: if you don’t already have a pinterest
account, get one. It literally has a gazillion dorm room decorating ideas with
pictures. It is free to join and the app is also free, don’t let me forget it
is amazing. All you have to do is type “dorm room decoration” into the search
bar and boom!
You can get really creative.
Let your imagination run wild!!!
